Coronavirus or COVID-19 is a contagious disease caused by a virus originally originated from Wuhan, China.
Coronavirus has infected 198 countries and territories all around the world and the number of cases in every corner of the world is increasing day by day.
Most people who get infected with this deadly virus show some symptoms like mild to moderate respiratory illness but it is said that people are recovering without any special treatment. But the older group of people, already having some sort of disease like diabetes, chronic respiratory disease, and cancer are more prone to develop serious illness.
Preventive Measures From COVID-19
1. Wash Your Hands
The most effective way to prevent yourself against this infectious disease is by washing hands properly. Washing hands with soap is quite an effective way to get rid of this virus.
It is recommended to wash your hands for at least 20 seconds. But if water and soap is not available, please use hand sanitizer (at least 60% alcohol based).
2. Avoid Touching Your face
WHO has recommended to not touch your face if your hands are not clean and you should keep washing your hands after every hour.
3. Keep Distance With Others
Maintaining at least 1 meter distance from everyone as the main cause of this infection is droplets that spreads from infected person when he/she coughs, speaks or sneeze.
4. Isolate Yourself From Others
If you are showing symptoms of this virus, the best thing you should do is isolate yourself from others as you could unknowingly spread this virus.
5. Disinfect All Things Regularly
Keep all surfaces clean that you touch often by disinfecting themselves regularly Like if you are working from home, disinfect your computer, phone, laptop, etc.
6. Increase Your Immunity
Immunity can be increased by eating fruits, vegetables, nuts and drinking loads of water. Best immunity boosting fruits are citrus fruits like oranges
7. Wear Mask
Wearing a mask is also recommended.
However, only wearing a mask is not sufficient to eliminate the risk of spreading this virus.
8. Avoid Public Gathering
You may catch the infection from someone present in the gathering, so it is best to avoid all kinds of birthday parties, weddings or any kind of gathering. #StayHomeStaySafe
9. Avoid Public Places
It is best to avoid all kinds of public places such as banks, parks, government offices where the chances of infection are high.
10. Avoid Using Public Transport
Use of public transport to be avoided as the surfaces are being touched and chances are high that they have previously been touched by an infected person.
Symptoms Of Coronavirus
The symptoms of coronavirus generally don’t develop immediately. In most of the cases, it takes 2-14 days to develop the symptoms of this virus.
The most common symptoms of coronavirus include:
- Pain in muscles
- Fever and cough
- Difficulty in breathing
Other symptoms of the virus include:
- Runny nose
- Body ache
- Sore throat
- Diarrhea or nausea
What To Do If You Show Symptoms Of Coronavirus?
Well, first of all. DO NOT PANIC. Remember, there are success stories of people who have recovered from it. There is also a possibility that you are not COVID-19 positive and are suffering from normal infection/viral/flu.
Most of the cases of coronavirus don’t require hospitalization at all. But it is better to have a strategy than having none at all. Do the following if you show the symptoms of coronavirus:
1. Don’t Panic
Panic will lead you nowhere. Keep calm and you can’t be 100% sure that you have got the disease until you get tested. It may be a normal infection or flu.
2. Isolate Yourself From Others
Don’t go for any public gathering, parties, public places, movie theatres. Avoid using public transport and going to public places.
3. Stay At Home.
As you know, it is a contagious disease so staying at home is the best thing you can do for society and your loved ones. By visiting a hospital, you increase your risk of being infected from the virus as hospitals are the places where the infected patients are.
So, avoid going out until absolutely necessary.
4. Seek Medical Advice

5. Call The Helpline Number

Please understand that elderly are at higher risk of this virus. So, if anyone is showing even the slightest symptom of this virus, then taking an expert opinion from your family doctor (preferably over phone call) or the government helpline number would not hurt at all.
